This model creates a diffuser for a stock Fluval Spec freshwater aquarium kit (has not been tried on the other variants). The intent is to create a way to slow down the current in the aquarium without significantly changing the water volume being filtered, since there are some fish (like betta) who prefer less ‘violent’ currents.
The diffuser is oriented vertical as designed and installed in our tank and works well that way. But it is possible to orient it at just about any angle including horizontal. It's a loose but effective slip fit. There's a small hole near the inlet which will direct water a small amount of water outwards. When mounted vertically, this is directed towards the surface to motivate anything ‘film-like’ on the surface to break up as there's no longer current sloshing around the top of the aquarium otherwise.
Installation is simple. Remove the stock nozzle, stock elbow, install new elbow. The front is a snug fit on the back part. Joined together, install on elbow. Pump speed can be anything. It will stay on.
My parts were printed in Polymaker ASA black on a Bambulab X1C. No ill effects on fish, in fact they all appear to be super happy with the clear water that is moving far more gently.
