Description

Foot tall storage and display TARDIS, designed for embedding concealed electronics for lighting and audio.

Visit the new YouTube channel (work in progress) to see and hear its functions in action as intended if also purchasing the companion electronics kit: Power TARDIS videos

If you have NO desire to add lighting, sound or electronics, please consider the BASIC version of this model

TALLEST model is the Big Blue box file itself, at 249.5mm. If you have a 250mm height AND have modified, such as volcano nozzle or glass bed, you may need to undo modifications to fit. Otherwise, just tighten down the bed a bit and re-level.

All print files are in ZIP archive. I also uploaded the Big Blue Box file and some others separately so you can 3D view them before purchasing.

Designed in CAD and optimized for:

  • Maximum printability
  • Safest printing and minimal supports
  • Error free model files
  • Proper orientation when opening file
  • Light friction fit clearances when filament flow rate has been calibrated and set in slicer
  • Dual file options where appropriate

Comprehensive model print settings guide included.

Single model in each STL when multiples are necessary. This allows you to easily print just 1 and dial in settings if necessary, minimizing waste before  multiplying and printing the rest.

PLEASE send a message with your questions. I care and desire to make this a neat experience for other printers / makers.

This jaw dropping / stunning / excitement-creating POWER version has:

  • Channels for concealed wiring, and
  • Accommodates slim profile lighting (8mm wide 5v COB light strips), while maintaining the same storage volume
  • Wireless connection capability to top light
  • Hole for USB port in back.
  • Adapter plug CAD files to create your preferred connections for power port and shelf to lid wireless connection

FILAMENT:  I used eSUN Dark Blue PLA PRO (PLA+) for most pictured prints. Other filaments that I tried or look close to right are:
  - INLAND Micro Center PLA+, Dark Blue PLA Plus
  - GIANTARM, MATTE PLA, MATTE NAVY BLUE
  - TPOIMNS, PLA, NAVY BLUE

These model files and my ‘Electronics and Extras companion kit’ on Etsy  includes everything but batteries to bring the POWER TARDIS version to life with:

  • Preprogrammed and tested, SMD assembled custom circuit board and through hole assembly parts. Designed for ultra low standby power consumption (15uA).
  • Tested speaker, audio module, and microSD card pre-loaded with 37 sound-leveled show clips
  • Cordless operation and ample power delivery for play cycles.
  • Lid trigger, concealed touch sensor, and “Lamp Mode” when plugged in
  • Function tested and firmware preloaded via custom PCB test fixture.
  • Keyed connectors, capacitors and male/female headers to complete the circuit board assembly
  • Light strips precut to proper lengths and tested
  • Blue and white LEDs for top light, so you can choose which Doctor's TARDIS you prefer
  • Trimming potentiometer to dial in preferred audio level
  • Prepinned 22 AWG wiring and connector housings for circuit board connections
  • 3xAA AND 2x18650 Li-on battery holders. AAs are everywhere, but the pricier 18650s in parallel offer better and longer performance
  • USB C power port with housing and model file to fit
  • 4-pin magnetic connectors  and print adapters for wireless connection to top light
  • Wiring connector labels to easily match connections to circuit board
  • Heat shrink to reduce chances of potential shorting of wired connections
  • Carefully crafted and visually sharp Police Public Call Box top signs for backlighting (1 spare)
  • Door call box and ambulance stickers (adhesive backed, 2 spares each)
  • Printed door hardware so you don't need additional silver filament- larger handle, smaller handle and lock
  • 2 top light globes so you don't have to dial in high resolution small feature printing. Choose which Doctor's TARDIS globe you prefer
  • Non-slip Gel feet to elevate box for good sound production and eliminate plasticky feel and sliding on resting place
  • Magnetic connector pair for wireless power to lid for top light and play cycle triggering
  • Magnets for pleasant lid retaining feel opposite from magnetic electronic connectors
  • Adhesive mounting strips and velcro for battery holder and speaker
  • Comprehensive, step-by-step wiring / assembly instructions with pictures
