Firstly, let me apologise for probably the simplest model on Printables… essentially a small cylinder with a hole in the bottom, but I shall explain all…

One of my jobs is as an Event Medical Commander. This involves the management of resources and medical incidents at events, such as sporting fixtures, etc. Whilst there are some technological solutions out there to perform this role, they are often expensive, require computers with a decent internet connection, and require all resources to have some sort of GPS tracking.

Often, these events take place where you can't get all these things together; imaging 26,000 people in a sporting stadium all checking their phones at half-time, and imagine the impact that has on any mobile data.

A very successful, low-tech solution is to use a ‘battle board’, which is essentially a map stuck to a magnetic board (such as a dry-wipe board) and use magnetic counters to denote resources and incidents.

I attempted to get some coloured counters, but the size I wanted is very limited, usually a couple of colours and I would have to stick labels to the counters, or remember what colour means what. So, I thought “why not print my own?”

These little ID tokens are designed to take a small, 5mm x 2mm, magnet in the base, can be printed in any colour you want, and you can add a few characters of text on the top to help further identify resources / units / incidents / whatever.

To add the text on the top, do the following:

  • In Prusaslicer, select the token
  • right clickselect “add part”
  • select “text”
  • for 2 characters: In the text box, use font Segoe UI, height of 7.0mm and a depth of 0.5mm - see picture
  • for 3 characters: In the text box, use font Segoe UI, height of 4.5mm and a depth of 0.5mm - see picture
  • Select an colour change at 5.2 (26) - see picture

Print with 0.4mm nozzle and layer height of 0.20mm quality.

Magnets will fit a little loose in the bottom, so a small dot of CA glue will hold them in place.

All that's left is for you to affix you map to the magnetic base of choice, then use your tokens to identify resources and incidents.

I have included a couple of pictures of a generic event so you can see what the tokens look like in use.

These also have other uses, such as sports coaching, general map markers, etc.

Hope they are as useful for you as they have been for me!
