The original spool had a spring in one end - I found that for heavier and malformed spools there often wasn't enough force to rewind the filament. I simply cut the model in half and mirrored the bit with the springs, made the halves fit together and added a ring to glue the springs in. You still have to make the rods and the holders from the original model.
