Counterholder Turbo Diesel Engine for VW LT1 (like VAG 3181)

Model for a counterholder, which is needed when you change the timing belt on a 6 cylinder turbo engine of Volkswagen LT1.

You can compare this counterholder with the special tool VAG 3181, which is not procurable anymore….

With known types of filament it is not possible to use the counterholder correctly during a timing belt change, because the torque (460Nm) will break it into peaces.

But you can use a print of this model as a sample in order to bend your own steel counterholder.

I did this and the method worked well:

1. Bending steel until the shape align with the printed model.
2. Drilling the holes (you can fix the printed model on the bended steel part)
3. Grinding the holes (especially the big hole) to make it perfectly round
4. Weld the additional two blocks of steel on the counterholder
