TL;DR

  1. This is a Friction Fit DNA-Model
  2. Print each base pair in a different colour in the vertical orientation
  3. No glue is required, and assembly is simple.
  4. Great for Educational Use and School Model

Print Details

Print both helix halves on one plate in PLA using a plain colour (such as black, grey, or white) or print in dual colour as in the images using two colours, one for the base and one for the helix. Supports are required. For the base pairs, you will need to print at least ten sets. So, for example, if you print 5 Adenine and 5 Cytosine for one half, you will need to print the corresponding 5 Thymine and 5 Guanine. You can print any number of each set as long as you have ten in total. Print all of the base pairs vertically using bright colours for the best look. No support is needed for base pairs. All parts can be printed in PLA and are friction-fit. Using bright colours creates an outstanding look.

Assembly Instructions

First, try dry-fitting the two helix sections. Friction should hold them together if the print quality is good. Otherwise, glue can help if needed. Then, take them apart and place the matching base pairs on either flex half using the photos for reference. Then, connect the two halves, being careful not to break the thin helix and align up the writing and triangle of square alignment pins on the basepairs.
