The RC-2263 is my go-to surfacing and slabbing bit. But it's a 2-¾" (70mm) diameter monster that I don't want taking up space in my CNC bit tray. The carbide blades are razor sharp, brittle and ridiculously expensive.

I designed this simple case to protect the bit when it is stored. I printed it using some cheap PLA I had laying around. PLA is fine for this application if the walls are thick enough.

  • 0.4 nozzle
  • 0.28 layer height
(The threads work with this height. You can go less than 0.28, but anything higher and the threads might get pretty rough.)
  • 4 walls (minimum)
  • 40% infill
  • no supports required

Use CA glue to attach the stem to the cap.

Storage Tip: Snip off a couple of small pieces from a Zerust Rust Prevention Plastab and toss them in with the bit. This case seals fairly tightly, so trapped moisture may cause problems.
