I am trying to create a dry box within an Ikea closet. Apart from a way to remove moisture, I needed to seal the edges. However the seal kept the door open.

Since my closet dry box is experimental, I did not want to commit on an off-the-shelf latch, which would require screwing it close to the door. Plus the door is metallic, so we can't screw the plate wherever we want on the door.

I made this adapter latch which uses the existing screw holes in Ikea Besta for the door hinge. It's strong enough to keep the door snug and easy to open too.

  • It fits in the existing screw holes so you don't damage your furniture.
  • Designed for Ikea's BESTA series, but I believe that other series such as PAX also use the same hole pattern.
  • It is slim enough to not cause issues when taking things out.
  • In my observations, I notice that the force is sufficient to pull the door when it's nearby, and stronger/bigger ring magnets can be used for more oomph.
  • Use matching ring magnets on the door and the adapter and screw them. Specific distance between the magnets can be adjusted with washers.
  • I used 3mm screws, making sure to use countersunk ones for the magnet. Ensure the facing magnets are of opposite polarity.
  • Print with 3 or more perimeters, no need for support. 10% infill of your choice should be enough.

I provide the step file in case you want to modify it. Hope you find it useful!
