About the project

I designed these lidded bins when I started experimenting with different filament types. My priority was to avoid mixing waste materials as much as possible so they could be recycled easily.

The lid serves two purposes: one is to facilitate the identification of each material, and the other is to prevent debris, such as dust, from contaminating the filament. This will make recycling easier.

Moreover, I wanted to keep them relatively compact so they would not take up too much of my precious project space. Once a bin is full, I put the waste material into a dedicated bag outside my work area.

Print Settings

  • Filament: I recommend printing the bins and lids in PLA or PETG as they are cheap and durable enough.
  • Nozzle: 0.4mm or 0.6mm for a faster printing time
  • Layer height: 0.3mm with a 0.4mm nozzle / 0.36mm with a 0.6mm nozzle
  • Infill: 15% Gyroid
  • Shell: 1mm
  • Supports: None
  • Adhesion: None

Future

Please give me some recommendations for adding more filament types to the lids! I would love to expand the list with composites and rarer filament types!
