Stack-a-LACK enclosure

I wanted to design my own enclosure for my printer and this is the v1 of what I came up with.

Stack-A-LACK

As mentioned I wanted to create my own variant of the LACK enclosure as I didn't quite find one that I liked. This was good because I need practice with CAD and my printer. INNER DIMENSIONS ARE AROUND 53x53x56mm(45mm between posts).

For this first version I just bought 2 IKEA LACK tables and some plexi and started to measure out what i needed to print.

As i only have one printer I just measured the needed height from that, so this'll fit an ender 3 v3 se/ke without problems.

For the upper risers I utilised the original holes for the feet and for the lower ones I drilled two pilot holes for each.

First I thought about adding LED-strips to the ceiling but then I stumbled on some super cheap LED spotlights and desided to design around those. These lights could've maybe work without those rings but the installation guide mentioned minimum installation depht of 55mm and the LACK tabletop is only 50mm on the outside so I added those in. The two on the front have notches because I drilled the holes before designing the rest(I'm cool like that). The cabling for the lights I stuffed trough the table with a metal ruler and routed through the hole with the other cables.

For the handle i carved out a 2mm deep notch on the door so it sits flush with the plexi, but you can just measure the plexi so that it's not needed.

I have my filament dryer on top of this and modded it so that I have a PTFE tube running between it and a passthrough on the roof.

I made the cableconduit kinda tight to only house the power cords of my printer and the camera I have in there.

After building the enclosure I noticed that it was quite wobbly, so I designed some corner braces to add stability.

In the future I have decided to create some kind of ventilation for the motherboard and powersupply to the bottom.

If you want to have the door open the other way just mirror parts A-F in the slicer.

What you need to succeed:

  • 2x IKEA LACK tables
  • 2mm Plexiglass (I bought two 1250x600x2 pieces)
  • 40x Short, wide headed, coarse threaded screws
  • 4x Thick, coarse threaded, 30-40mm long screws
  • 2x M8 bolts for the hinges, preferably 75mm long but you can cut to length.
  • 4x M4x14 bolts to attach plexi to the hinges
  • 4x M4 washers (I embedded these with heat to the front of the hinges just to add some strength)
  • 4x M4 nuts
  • 4x 10x2mm magnets to hold the door closed
  • Superglue to attach the handle
  • Drillbits to drill pilot holes for the screws (you can do without but LACK is basically just cardboard with veneer on top and quite prone to blowout and tear)
  • Utilityknife (for cutting the plexi, WATCH YOUR FINGERS(ask me how I know))
  • A printer to poop out these parts.
