I love the model Adamix created! As soon as I saw it, I knew exactly what I was going to use it for: My cat's litterbox enclosure.

So this was one of the first practical prints I ever printed on my 3D printer. But I was having issues with the sliding latch and locking screw. And that's how I came up with this.

I actually ended up remodelling the whole latch piece and knob in FreeCAD. I made the piece slightly longer and a little bit thicker to fit snugly (but freely) in the housing. Then, I recreated the knob to be wider and a bit shorter for ergonomics. And I also added a “lip” to make contact with the face of the latch housing to lock it down. And so far, it has worked FLAWLESSLY!

I printed both parts in the same print, with the following settings on my Ender 3 V2:

  • .2mm layer height
  • 75% Infill (or more)
  • Triangle infill pattern
  • 3 or more walls for rigidity
  • No supports
  • No Brim/Raft

Making this remix was a lot of fun, and like I said it turned out great! This was printed in SUNLU Black PLA+ from Amazon. It's held up so far for the last month and has worked great for my application.

Big thanks to Adamix for sharing the original! I hope others will find this remix useful.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

I utilized the original latch housing provided by Adamix, but I had issues with the screw lock and latch working properly. Plus, the knob to me felt pretty narrow so I added some more width to it, with some cutout groves for added gripage. Finally, the knob is also shorter to allow it to make contact with the housing to lock rather than the backplate.
