Super easy and quick print as Sovol SV08 privacy camera mod.
I had high or at least some hopes, that adding the original Sovol SV08 enclosure would add better privacy and security to the webcam usage of the printer… Well… see picture below: 🙈
1st thought: Just loose the screw of the camera and twist it around → problem solved! (?!?)
This is not possible, because as shown in the following picture the mount has a little ring with a cutout marked red for you which prevents if from spinning:
So the mounting has to be modified and this little mod comes into the game. 😁
With this little mod you can add a “cap” on top of the camera which hides the cutout ring:
With the part added you can twist the camera in an angle you prefer and get more privacy. 😎
Installation instructions:
Shut down and turn off the printer.
To reach the camera better, I removed the right enclosure panel.
You will need to loosen the single M3x8 screw of the camera beneath the gantry.
NOTE: Try not to drop the screw into the front right leg opening. Trust me you will have a hard time getting it out again. Please do not ask me why I know this…
Attach the printed part above the webcam as shown below.
Put in a new M3x12 screw to replace the M3x8 one you just removed.
Screw the camera in place beneath the gantry again. Do not tighten it fully yet.
Position the camera roughly in an angle.
Turn on the printer and wait for Klipper to start.
Use the webcam window in Klipper to find your desired camera angle.
Tighten the screw to fix the angle just set.
Mount the side panel again.
Testing:
Even when the hotend is at Z= 0 the camera has enough space to not touch the base:
Result:
This little mod should help you adding some more privacy to your printer too. 😁
