Created in Fusion 360 for the Loyal Moses 2024 Christmas Community Print Drive. This toy seeks to mimic the wooden toys of old.
This toy prints in two parts with no support nor rafts necessary. Simply snap the blades onto the rotor after printing and get to spinning!
FIRST STEP - TOLERANCE TESTING: You should test your tolerances before printing full size models. I've included the following files for testing: helichopter_blades_test_40.stl - smaller blades disk for testing 40% size Print off each of the (two) parts for the size model you plan to print. Please leave the rotor oriented the way it is (round section perpindicular to the plate) so that you have a proper test as this is the orientation it will print in the full print. Test how easily the disk snaps onto the rotor. If it doesn't fit well or snap on easily, scale the blades_test object up or down until it snaps on relatively easily but doesn't just fly off when spinning. Once you know the scaling size you need, simply scale the full blades up or down by that same amount when you print those off. Leave the body scaling at 100%. If you have trouble or questions, please reach out to me, marinegeek23, via LM Discord and I'll be happy to assist! |
You'll find both 60% and 40% scaling from the original model for printing for the 2024 CCPD. Both exceed the choking hazard guidelines for young children.
I've also included higher tolerance blades pieces for both the 60% and 40% scale models. These will snap onto the body a little more easily if you want to forego the tolerance testing above and just go for it.
This toy is similar in size to abbymath's toy vehicles (also in the 2024 CCPD, link below), the toy car and toy truck.
Approximate sizes:
60% body - 78.7mm x 113.6mm x 30mm
60% blades - 90mm x 90mm x 4.8mm
40% body - 75.7mm x 52.5mm x 20mm
40% blades - 60mm x 60mm x 3.2mm
I've also added my painted version which contains both the 60% and 40% models that I printed on my A1 mini. This 3mf was created in Orca Slicer 2.2.0 beta.
