A designed this XL Tray Drawer storage system for my workshop cabinets, and has the following features:

  • Fully Parametric, main parameters are N number of drawers and inner measurements of cabinet
  • Drawers can be used as trays around the workshop
  • Inserts to screw to the wood with rails to guide each drawers
  • Drawers with multiple designs for different use cases
  • Can mix different Ns. Sample prints use N=5 and N=10
  • Tags designed to visually match Honeycomb parts
  • Tags can be removed and replaced as storage needs change

Attention

Attached parts are Samples only. They have been created with specific measures for my cabinets, you need to measure your own cabinets and generate your parts with OnShape. Document link attached.

Parametrization

In oder to parametrize your parts:

  • Download and open OnShape Instructions with link to design
  • Main Variables are in a Variable Studio
  • Check All is Correct in BookCase Tab
  • There is one tab per Basic Design, and variations (A,B,C…) are selected with Configuration 
  • It is easy to alternate N parameter (N=5 N=10) and all parts are re-designed.
  • Part Filenames are generated depending on parameters

Printing

Project displayed was printed with Prusa XL 2T. It would be 80 trays with N10 or 40 with N5, I decided to mix both. In total 20Kg of PLA and 30 days printing. I mixed 2 brands of PLA, SunLu for the bulk of the building and Prusament Vanilla white for the fronts of the trays, to match my Honeycomb. Printing process was very reliable.

Settings where: Layer Size 0.25mm Structural, infill 5%.
