Description

PDF

Printing threads is sometimes a pain and the hardware store is so far away. Threading your own bolts is fine as long as the print settings for the ‘rod’ work well and don't cause deformation.

The attached file contains Prusaslicer settings for a Sovol SV07 with PETG. Use these settings to print small bolts/nuts, e.g. M5 hex bolt, which can then be threaded with the appropriate die set. The print time is long (30 min for an M5 x 40 mm bolt) but the parts are good. Use orientation provided for bolts and nuts can sit with the hole facing the build plate.

If you use another slicer the key settings are the following:

  • Temp: 250 *C
  • Bed Temp: 70 *C
  • Nozzle width: 0.4 mm
  • Layer Height: 0.08 mm
  • Fan speed: 20% (all layers including first layer)
  • Speed (all settings): 20 mm/s
  • Speed (first layer): 10 mm/s
  • Support material:
    • Grid
    • 2 mm pattern spacing
    • 2 interface layers
  • Raft layers on supports
    • 5 raft layers (you need to bring the rod off the bed to stop deformation of the rod itself).
  • Perimeters: 1000 (You want the bolt to be 100% solid or mostly solid so that it can be cut and support weight).

No supports required for nuts, only bolts.
