HangClip

The HangClip is a strong, sleek, low-profile, 3D-printed hook designed for hanging your bags from tables, bathroom stall walls, or beams. When not in use, you can fold the clip around your bag's handle.

The HangClip comes in two versions:

  • HangClip: The standard HangClip is entirely 3D printed, simply print the two halves and snap them together (It might be a tight fit!). This version is designed for purses, sling bags, small backpacks, or any bag or item weighing up to 10lbs (4.5kg). No supports are needed!
  • HangClip Plus: The Plus version is a stronger, more durable HangClip. This version needs additional hardware:
    • 1x M3x14mm Socket Head Cap Machine Screw
    • 1x M3 Self Locking Hex Nut*
    • The Plus version is designed to handle heavier loads, making it perfect for larger backpacks or any bag or item weighing up to 25 pounds (11.3 kg). If you already have the hardware on hand, or you are finding that the standard version is not holding up to your use, then this version is highly recommended due to its enhanced durability compared to the standard version.
    • * The Self Locking Hex Nut that the clip is designed for measures 3.9mm tall, 5.4mm wide (flat side to flat side), 6mm wide (point to point).

Assembly

  • Standard:
    • It might be a tight fit, it is designed that way
  • Plus:
    • Note the orientation and direction of the nut!

Recommended print settings:

  • Standard Version:
    • 0.15mm layer height
    • 35% Infill (I used gyroid)
    • ironing on topmost surface
  • Plus Version:
    • 0.15mm layer height
    • 60% infill (I used gyroid)
    • 3 wall loops/perimeters
    • ironing on topmost surface

A note on plastic:

I used standard PLA and PLA+ for all my prototypes and tests and found it was sufficiently strong. (I've tested the plus version up to 40lbs and it held fine, albeit with some permanent stretching).

I would not recommend any Matte/Silk or other similar cosmetic PLAs due to their worse layer adhesion (in my experience). I have also not yet done any testing with other plastics (ASA, PETG). If you end up printing a HangClip with a different material, please consider leaving a make!

Note: On the plus version, make sure the walls of the locknut slot are parallel to a build plate side,  if the slot is at an angle it will be harder to put the nut in.
