Hi,
some time ago I was designing something for a small project (knob for some 4040 profile stuff). The project didn't come to fruition but over time this design became a small playground for playing & learning in Fusion360. Maybe someone finds something useful in this collection.
I printed a few of the knobs as samples but not all of them. See the pictures.
My samples where printed mostly with (depending on the model):
notes for printing:
There are some caps/covers for the screw heads included. They might not fit e.g. to loose. I did not optimize the tolerances. Try with a different scaling if anything does not fit.
I printed my handwheel samples with the larger ring facing the build plate and supports for the part with the screw. On both my samples I got a small layer shift just above the ring. I dont know why. But because of the supports the later visible surface of the part with the screw is not the best looking. Therefore I would advise to place your print with the ring facing up. It will use more material for supports but it should look better.
The knobs in the Fusion design are based on parameters and you could change them to create models for other metric screw heads e.g. M4, M6, … but my experience was that some models and paramters do not ‘like’ each other. Especially the knurled knobs don't like a parameter change. If you need other sizes I would recommend to change the scaling in the slicer to your liking. A small test model is included. All the indentations for the screw heads and screw shafts share the same value. Test it with the small scaling model and then apply it to the one you want to print.
If I have some new ideas I might add them here.
And: I am still a noob in Fusion360, so sry for the fu*ked up timeline :-)
Happy printing!
