Remixed Upper/Lower Chambers with Smoother Surface

I was chasing that perfect surface finish with clean, shiny metallic reflections, and realized that the original STL had some low-poly faceting around the outer cylindrical surface. Since this was noticeable as vertical lines when printed using shinier filaments, I re-meshed just the outer-surface to be much smoother—preserving the original part's dimensions, details, and cutouts exactly. 

This is a drop-in replacement for the original parts in UnimatrixRed's model. Both hollow and solid versions are provided.

Tips for a clean, shiny, metallic print: 

  • I found that on my A1 mini, the single biggest variable for a smooth outer surface with minimal ringing is speed. After doing test prints, a slow 10mm/s outer wall speed produced almost no ringing, and was noticeably better than even 15mm/s or 30mm/s. I set my inner walls to 30mm/s, but you may be able to get away with higher. 
  • Use a lighter silver silk PLA to get as close as possible to the brushed chrome of the Graflex prop. I like the one from Ziro, but have heard that the Amazon Basics and Bambu ones are also good.
  • A .16mm layer height seems to be a hair brighter than .12mm or .08mm, and the barely-perceptible layer lines added to the brushed chrome look. Inner/outer vs outer/inner walls also seemed to be a bit brighter.
  • I preferred having a single straight seam running down the back (below the glass eye) to a scarf seam, which always seemed to create a more noticeable matte band.

9/14/24 Widened hole for the bunny ears slightly for better fit. 
9/15/24 Also added smoothed versions of the lower chamber. The original clamp section prints well as-is.
