This is a simple popsicle holder. I made it for a family member who's son loves popsicles, and his parents aren't a fan of the mess they make.
Simply insert the popsicle into the holder, and enjoy! The melted popsicle will collect in the tray and won't get all over your hands.
Some notes on 3D printed plastic for food purposes:
- You cannot put these in the dishwasher, unless you're using very heat-resistant materials
- Even if dish-washed or hand-washed, 3D printed material is not considered food-safe by the FDA (this goes for any homemade food-related items really)
- You CAN reuse these by rinsing them out. This will have a lot to do with whether or not your child or family member wants to drink the popsicle juice. The kid I made this for doesn't drink it, so they can be reused a few times. If you want to drink the juice, single-use only is likely the safe approach. When in doubt, be cautious, extra PLA for more holders is cheaper and easier than a doctors visit
- When made with 100% infill, 0.16mm layer height and full supports under the collector section (as recommended) these take me 45 minutes and 30 grams of plastic on a Bambu X1C. Single-use is definitely viable if you're worried about this, as it means you can make 33 of them (roughly) with one 1 kilogram spool.
- At the end of the day, I'm not a doctor, I'm a nerd who makes things on the internet. Use any food related items and any 3D printed items you give to children at your own risk, and please supervise children using homemade 3D printed items.
With all that said, popsicle sticks are not universal (which I was very frustrated to find out) so this may not work for the brand you use. Please check out the attached PDF drawing which gives all of the model dimensions in detail. Using a pair of digital calipers (15 bucks on Amazon if you don't have any, possibly the best value-for-money of any tool I've ever bought) you can check before wasting any precious PLA.
Please feel free to remix or alter the model as you see fit.
