Thing Pointer is a versatile 3D model featuring a hand with a pointing finger on a stick.  For all your indicating needs!

Versions

Depending on whether you want to print the stick or use wood/pastic/metal rods, you can choose from:

  • Rectangular Stick (default, shown in pictures):  This one comes with a rectangular slot for a piece of appropriately sized rectangular wood stock or the included 3D printable rectangle.  The stick can easily be resized in the length dimension in-slicer.

  • Circular Rod: This one comes with a cylindrical slot for a piece of appropriately sized  wood/plastic/metal dowel. Sizes are included for a ¾" round-stock (~19 mm diameter) as is commonly found in hardware stores, as well as metric sizes in the range 18-12 mm.
    • I also include a 3D model to print a cylinder of the appropriate size, but since weak Z-layer bonding tends to weaken such printed cylinders, I would recommend the printed rectangular version flat on the bed instead for better strength.

If you'd like a new version with a different diameter/size of hole, please leave a comment and i'll try to make one for you.

 Some possible uses:

  • Presentations: Use it as a pointer during presentations to highlight key points on slides or charts.
  • Teaching Aid: Perfect for educators to point out specific details on a whiteboard or in a book. Engage students in interactive learning activities by using the pointer in educational games.
  • DIY Projects: Great for creative DIY projects, such as custom signs or interactive displays.
  • Decorative Piece: Add a quirky and fun element to your home or office decor.
  • Photography Prop: Ideal for photographers looking for unique props to enhance their shoots.
  • Event Marker: Scale it up and use it to direct guests at events or parties.
  • Theatrical Productions: Useful as a prop in plays or skits to add emphasis to gestures.

Printing

Shown here in Prusament Ms. Pink, along with a random matte black PLA for the rectangular stick.  Print the hand at 0.16 or 0.2 mm layer height and the stick at 0.2 layer height. Tolerances are built-in for a press-fit (may need to tap with a hammer) for the stick into the hand, but you may use glue to secure it in place.  If your printer is not tuned, you might need to size the stick down slightly.
