When I saw the flash contest “Back to school” I asked myself; what did I have problems with in school, and how would I solve it today?
The answer is; I was always worried about the schedule, when I went to low and middle grade school it was easy since we did all studies in one class room, but from there on we switched class rooms and my disorganized brain had problems coping with where to go and when.
Oh, if I had this back then, I would carry it around like a relay baton…
This is a concept solution, I don't have all the answers to different configurations but I tried to make it as flexible as possible. The big “invention” is the “Split” brick that interlocks with itself and doesn't pop out of the slot. I have made it with both time bricks and letter bricks.
The pencil case is hexagonal, one side is for the timeline and the 5 other sides is for a normal school week. (I can create an octagonal case if requested - for a 7 day week)
I created it with 10 major blocks, but i can also extend this to more upon request (did not have time to create these two variants due to the deadline of the competition.)
The lid is fully flexible and can rotate 270°. It is attached with two 1.75mm filament wires. In the version shown in the pictures I have two 3x1mm neodymium magnets, but in the uploaded models 4 pcs are required. The lid was simply not strong enough to stay closed.
Prepare for many hours of printing, especially if you go down the rabbit hole of printing different colors for every subject… Many, many hours… (Keep it monochrome for your own sanity.) Also, note that you probably will need to sand down the edges on the bricks a bit, some colors require more and some none if you are lucky.
I recommend printing in 0.2mm layer height, and use the Arachne settings in the slicer for better text visibility.
When you have assembled everything, screw the threaded bottom on and insert a filament wire which you snip off to prevent people tampering with the pencil case.
