The CravenSpeed short shifter for is a great upgrade for any Mini Cooper with a manual transmission. So is a Billetworkz shift knob. Unfortunately, CravenSpeed's shifter has an M12-1.25 thread, while Billetworkz's knob is 3/4"-16. This adapter threads tightly into the knob, and loosely onto the shifter, with two set screws to keep the markings on the knob aligned. It also has a slot to hold the boot up with a zip tie.
Note: this won't work with the stock shifter, as its shaft is larger than 12mm. In that case just use the included adapter from Billetworkz.
Required hardware:
2x 6-32x3/8" screws. I suggest sanding the tips of the screws for a better hold
1x thin zip tie to hold up the boot
Recommended print settings:
Absolutely don't print this in PLA. The whole “don't leave PLA in a hot car” thing should make this obvious but I'll say it just in case. I used PETG; ABS should work too.
The rest of the settings aren't super important, I used 3 perimeters with 100% infill for extra peace of mind.
Post-processing and assembly:
I sanded and polished the narrow ring of the adapter that's exposed, just to make it feel nicer in the hand. This isn't required obviously but it does look nice.
The threads on the short shifter have a notch that's really good at cutting out the threads on the printed part if they're too tight. Don't be too worried if it sounds like you're cross threading, just keep screwing until it bottoms out, unscrew, vacuum out the crumbs, repeat until it threads on relatively smoothly.
Unscrew the adapter from the shifter and screw it into the knob.
Thread the set screws into the two holes on the sides of the adapter.
Invert the boot and pull it up until the bottom of the fabric just clears the screw heads. Zip tie it in place, making sure to align it with the markings on the knob (it helps to look at where the base clips into your center console).
Loosen the set screws, then thread the adapter onto the shifter. Align the markings on top of the knob with the rest of the car, then tighten both set screws to hold the alignment.
Pull the boot back down and click it into the center console.
Done!
