What is a featherboard for a table saw?

Essentially, it is a second pair of hands that provides better grip and accurate cuts. Fastened to the tabletop or fence a featherboard ensures that the wood is safely and effectively hold and fed into the machine. It also prevents the wood for being pushed back towards de user.

About the model…

I could not find a featherboard for my Scheppach HS100S which is a simple DIY table saw for hobbyists and enthusiasts so I designed my own. Keep in mind that the design could be better but I provide it as it is (no guarantee of any kind). Feel free to modify it as you wish.

General measures

The featherboard is a perfect 20cm square. It should fit in most 3D printers as it is. You could check it in the .pdf file provided below (technical data).

Parts

The featherboard is an assembly of two different parts:

  • A slider that allows the assembly to move freely on the table. I measured the rail and draw its shape. It is available for download as a standalone .stl file or a .dxf file, in case you need just the main shape.
  • The featherboard itself which is the main part. I designed it following different woodworking forums and videos on Youbue. It is available as a .stl file.

Additional components

A few bolts, nuts and washers are needed to full assembly the featherboard. This are commonly used bolts and nuts. You should not have any trouble finding them in your local hardware store.
