Reposted from MakerWorld:

For this Harry Potter Wizard Chess set, I took the original chess pieces and made just a minor modifications to the pieces themselves:

  • Increased thickness of Queen's staff to help it print better
  • Increased thickness of Bishop's staff to help it print better
  • Changed base of models to accommodate a 6x3mm magnet

Next, I designed from scratch a storage box to contain all of the pieces. The storage box is split in half, one color per half, and the two halves connect together with 6x3mm magnets.

In Bambu Studio I put negative parts just under the surface of each piece's slot, with a Pause command inserted at the correct layer; while the printer is paused, you can put in the 6x3mm magnets (it's a tight fit, but they go in with a little encouragement). If you're careful with the polarity of the magnets, the embedded magnet in the storage box should roughly line up with the magnets you put in the bottom of the pieces (Note, the pieces themselves don't have embedded magnets, just slots for you to glue them in afterwards).

The pawns are two rows of four, and to make sure the bottom of the second row printed well, i removed those ‘shelves’ and they get printed separately. They can be glued in afterwards. Note, their widths are not equal, so each of the shelves corresponds to a particular slot. In my print profile, i move one of the shelves to a separate plate so you can test the tolerance of the magnet slot.

The lid has some embedded text ("Harry Potter Wizard Chess") in it, so with a Bambu AMS you can use the fill tool and paint the letters a different color. Note: when i printed my lid, i used one of those holographic smooth build plates to great effect. However, I did experience a little bit of lifting at the four corners. The lid still printed well, but just something to be aware of.

I used Octogram Spiral for top and bottom surface patterns. I recommend avoiding gyroid infill; when printing the storage boxes, I had my infill set too low, and some of the bridges didn't quite work. Set your infill high enough and you won't have this issue.

I printed the chess pieces at 0.12mm layer height, and the lid/boxes at 0.2mm.

Due to the size, this will not fit on an A1 mini, as the lid and storage box barely fit on the 256x256 P1S build plate.

I still had issues with the bottom of the shields on the bishops, so you'll want to play around with the supports, as this is still a challenging set of objects to print.

I used Silver and Gold Leaf Rub ‘N Buff for the two colors of the pieces; I printed both sets in black, and then differentiated them with the Rub N’ Buff. For the storage box, I used ERYONE Glitter PLA, Burnt Titanium Blue color (https://a.co/d/eRxD07E). The lid i just used silk silver for the words, silk black pla for the body, gold silk pla for the accent stripes, and the same Eryone glitter for the bottom layer surrounding the text.

Note, the chess pieces aren't my design, but the box/lid are. I remixed this model: https://makerworld.com/en/models/425953?designId=425953#profileId-358975
