Lion-O is the son of Claudus, and is the leader and Lord of the ThunderCats. The series depicts his adventures from childhood to teenage/adulthood on the Third Planet and New Thundera, along with his friends and loyal followers, the ThunderCats.

History
At the beginning of the series, Lion-O is a 12-year-old boy. He was on his way to the Third Planet aboard the Royal Thunderian Ship because his home planet Thundera had been destroyed. During this journey he physically aged about 9 years (on the Third Planet he comes of age which is 21 years), this is because the suspension capsule he was in had a malfunction and instead of preventing aging it only slowed it down. Coincidentally this malfunction did not occur with Felino and Felina who were about the same age. Lion-O recalls his mentor Jaga mentioning to him that the aging took place in the capsules he and the other ThunderCats were traveling in when the ship was damaged.

Lion-O, once aged, expressed no confusion that Felino and Felina had not undergone the same aging which seems to indicate that he simply accepted it as a peculiarity of their capsule. Despite his newfound cunning and dexterity Lion-O is a child in an adult body, who throughout the series must learn what it is like to become a true leader and gain real maturity.

Appearance
Lion-O is a Thunderian, with slightly long, curved scarlet-red hair and light golden-brown eyes. He is a fully grown adult with a robust, muscular body. His hair is caramel colored with lighter markings around his eyes, mouth and on his arms. He has a very masculine face with a prominent forehead, defined cheekbones, split chin, chiseled jaw and thick frizzy eyebrows. His eyes are large with thick black lashes, tear-like markings on his lower eyelids like most Thunderians, he has fangs, claws and feline pupils.

Lion-O's main costume consists of a light blue leotard, with blue lines around the shoulders and an abdominal slit. The costume is very exposed, but includes blue boots with white outlining, and a thick blue belt outlined with white and the Eye of Thundera in the center; the belt also has three small buttons on either side of the eye.

Personality
When Lion-O arrived on the Third Planet he was an adult, he had no chance to age naturally, because of this he was a child in an adult body. He was immature, and stubborn. It took him a long time to mature, it was a very difficult process.

On the Third Planet Lion-O gained magnificent strength, durability and agility. He became very handsome according to Cheetara. He also had the cunning and skills of a fighter, but due to the time spent in the capsule, he missed out on the experience necessary for the proper growth process.
