Sorry, I have no idea how to modify an existing surface..
I'm also no expert by any means.
The way I modified the base, was to use a feature called "convert to base feature" in Autodesk Inventor. Then I just made a new ring and extended that one over the old model to a size I knew it would cover all 'triangles' of the original model.
The inside of this ring I adjusted to the E14 size I needed to fit the EU fitting.
But to modify a landscape like that, from what I've seen I think you might need the free software called "Blender".
But I don't know how to work with Blender. It's also got a very steep learning curve.

@Squawk_388463 I love this! I am new to 3D printing and have a BBL. I am trying to figure out how to add an image to the surface of the moon, can you help? I have tried using Fusion360 but I am a newb and know nothing. I can't use lithophanemaker.com because I want the base that we have in this file. Messaged OP but haven't heard back. With your detailed note I thought maybe you could direct me to an answer?.. Clearly you understand a bit because you modified the base to fit more snug. Please help. (edited)

Thanks for the details, I just got my BBL X1 a few weeks ago and I'm about to try this out. I'm going to use you settings since it looks great in the pictures.

0.1 mm Layer Height
Seam Position: Random

no supports, no brim, no raft
Silent mode (slow speed) after print job start
Filament used: Bambu Lab PLA Marble.

For printing the Wavy Stand model, I used the following settings:
0.6 Carbon Nozzle
0.24 mm Layer Height
Seam Position: Random
Top and Bottom shell layers: 8
25% Infill (Honeycomb)
Supports: Tree (auto), Style: Default, Threshold angle: 25
No brim, no raft
Silent mode (slow speed) after print job start
Filament used: Filamentum Timberfill Cinnamon Wood.

For all prints, I de-selected "Only one wall on top surfaces" in the Quality tab.

I adjusted the lips of the bayonet base to be a bit more snug when securing it into the moon. Also made the opening a bit smaller for the EU E14 lamp fitting.
Used a Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance E14 lamp.
This lamp can be controlled through an app on your phone via Bluetooth. You can set color, white light in various warmth's and brightness of the light. You can also remotely turn it off through this app. Awesome when placing this lamp in your bedroom for some dimmed atmosphere lighting.

Added comparison photos of two different types of filament. In both models, the Philips Hue light was set at the same color and brightness.
Left:
Moon: Sunlu PLA - White
Wavy Stand: Amolen Dark Wood Walnut PLA
Right: Bambu Lab PLA - Marble
Wavy Stand: Filamentum Timberfill Cinnamon Wood

I see this with other people that used 'stone', 'marble', 'rock', etc. types of filament with a bit of grain in the material, that the black spots of the moon are a lot darker (too dark perhaps) relatively seen, that they should be. And perhaps in the plain white filament closer to reality.
Of course you can play with the Philips Hue light settings and create a different look, but I find that for the 'marble' version I rotate the moon lamp to a position where it shows the least darker spots. When I do, I find the 'marble' version better looking. But the 'plain white' one looks nicer with black spots visible (I don't have to worry about the viewing orientation of the lamp, other than the wire and fitting).
Also, when the light is off, the 'marble' version looks better for sure, as the plain white has a 'plastic' look and feel to it (personal taste š).

Other than that, the Filamentum feels more like wood type filament. Also smells nicely like wood when printing (probably not healty to sniff that in though.. š).
The Amolen filament does not smeel and feels less like wood. It looks better when the moon light is on, as the color seems to come out differently when lightened by the moon. (I didn't sandpaper mine.)

Anyway, decide for yourself.
