This is awesome 👏 thanks so much
Great remix! Love the beer bottle and cigar!
For people having trouble assembling the ball and socket joints: don't sand the balls! Either sand the retaining lip on the socket slightly, or what I did was lightly run a deburring tool around that inside lip until I could just get the joint together. That eases the connection, but leaves the meat of the ball to provide friction against the inside of the socket.
That's exactly what I was looking for. Saved me a couple of clamps. Thanks for sharing (edited)
You might notice the photo doesn't include the actual part, because when I tried to fit it, it was too loose and fell and went and hid somewhere. Wasn't able to locate it.
Totally not the fault of the design, though, as I discovered trying to make my own version, after sizing it to the label holder in the photo, I tried to fit it to others, and discovered that the dimensions varied between different drawers. I guess this is the side effect of buying a less expensive toolchest, tolerances are ... a bit loose.
Thanks for the design, though! Looked like exactly what I needed, but now it looks like I'd have to resize it for just about each drawer to get a good fit, and that's more effort than I'm willing to make.
@cmh_13634 Interesting. It's certainly possible they used some variations of the extruded label holder.
But let me ask, did you attempt to pinch the label + clear protector behind the cap? That's what I did and how I intended it since my labels were the full width of the holder, and they were all very snug. I could see how they might be too loose without that. (edited)
@piranhaphish_231391 ah, no, didn't know that, had pushed the paper and the protector out of the way. Since I can't find the first one I printed, I'll have to try again and see if the paper and protector hold it in place.
FWIW, my toolchest came with endcaps for these parts, and not even those fit properly, so I threw them out, not realizing how enthusiastically the inserts like to come out of place.
Edit: Printed out a bunch in black and got them installed. Fit perfectly when using the paper/cover as shims.
With the info about catching the paper and protective cover I reprinted (had PrintedSolid Jessie Neon Pink loaded so it's hard to miss) and it fit properly!
My aluminum channels are set back a bit, not flush with the edge of the steel drawer, so I did trim the model to 5mm in the slicer. If I didn't trim it, the extra bit would interfere with the drawer before it could be pressed in. Also rotated it so the side face was on the build plate so it printed without supports.
Tested two other drawers, one wouldn't fit at all and the other would have fit with a bit of hammer-based persuasion, but then I'd be stuck with a neon pink endcap, so I didn't do that. Will reprint in black and should be good to go. Thanks for the clarification! (edited)
@cmh_13634 It's unfortunate that your aluminum channels aren't the full length of the drawer. Part of the reason for my design was to not only hold the labels in the channel, but also to hold the channel onto the drawer. A few of mine had a tendency to want to slide off of the drawer; hopefully yours are a bit tighter.
