Printed the monoblock version from Recycling Fabrik PLA and it works great. The contour fits the iron very well and it is held very securely when in the drill stand.
I've found that using a rubber band to lightly hold the two halves together makes handling and installing it quite a lot easier.
@ledgeJumper I used that to import the original author's model as a reference to check that my dimensions in the OpenSCAD file and the original dimensions are matching since prints from both should fit each other in the end. As long as you are not fixing the existing OpenSCAD code this is not needed for normal usage.
Hey, First off, thanks for this! I'm a cuber and one thing you probably want to change in the model is corner-cutting on the pieces. It makes them turn smooth and allows for greater speed. Also, you might want to let people know you can use lubes for these to make them smooth also, just pick any of the ones safe for plastic. Lot of cubers use RC car shock lube.
@JoelDeGan_2037062 With corner-cutting you mean the rounded corners of the inner tile and all tiles adjacent to that one? In fact I have those applied to my model with exactly that thought but chose a much smaller radius than your picture has. I also applied the same rounding to all internal parts that have to slip against each other. The radius is configurable in the OpenSCAD file that I plan to add later once I cleaned up the code. For now, I have chosen a radius for all roundings of 2mm, which is an arbitrary value given that I do not have much personal experience playing with those cubes. For me the main driver to make this model was to gain more experience with mechanic geometries, not necessarily to create a better model compared to the highly tuned ones commercially available. I plan though to make the OpenSCAD model easily customizable, such that more experienced users like you can fine-tune the details for even better mechanics. As such I highly value your input.
My daily wallet for more than half a year. Needed to print a second one as the first one wore out and lost springiness even though it was printed in PETG. But it is a very quick print. I added a hole in the back that makes it easier to push out that card.
Have been using it daily for more than half a year. Great design. Added a hole in the back using Prusa slicer with a box modifier to make removing cards easier.
