Why are the magnets placed so they repel each other?
Why are the magnets placed so they repel each other?
@ElectricTurtle This creates a higher concentration of magnetic flux. More specifically it works better than a traditional method over a larger magnetic gap width (2.5mm here compared to industry drivers being 1<1.5mm). It also helps create a more linear magnetic gap which reduces distortion.
The downside really is limited throw distance, but the small voice coil would not handle much more than 5W anyway.
Elemental V2 series was designed around a low cost point to enable students a nice entry point and also enable anyone to get the parts and try the project out without investing too much.
I have other designs with bigger motors and are more capable on Patreon where I continue to push my abilities. I hope all this information helps, and thanks for your question! - Paul :)
Hi Paul,
Fantastic work !
Would you please add the aligner and shim to the Elemental series speakers. You refer to them both in the assembly manual but they are not part of the downloads.
Also, what other magnets would you recommend if one cannot find 12x4x4 ?
I did find some 12x4x3, so might be able to add an additional washer to make up the thickness.
What kind of magnets are you using for these and would something like this be viable?

I'm super interested in this concept you've got and seeing your YT videos I imagine I'm gonna be a patreon before this first build even gets finished lol
@TaylorNovotn_1044853 Hey. Sorry for the late reply. Yes these magnets looks like the correct type. I am currently writing up a guide for a motor sourced through aliexpress. It is a weaker one than the one I have here but a new V2 version of Elemental will come with it which works well with this. If you have any other questions, I will try and be more alert here but I am also on Twitter @Polymate3D and on Patreon. Always happy to answer any questions and help along! - Paul
