This is an unexpected favorite... kids love these! They're right up there with Dragons and Claw Toys. They're also quick prints and easy to mass produce.
Printed and assembled one, wrapped it, put the wrapped present in a box, covered it in several layers of tape, a ton of rubber bands, wrapped the box, put that box in large box with some loose rattling stuff, then wrapped the final outer box. The most important part of the gift is the opening process.
My model feedback: The inner screw is a little too long, leaving the inner space not big enough to fit a standard gift card, or honestly much else. I put $300 in twenties and it was a squeeze. Suggest hollowing out the inner screw on the top, making it shorter, or giving it a slot you can slide a gift card in.
It used a half a kilo of filament, and $39 worth of hardware. It's a cool make, only reserved for the most special people in your life. Had three plastic screws break on the second box when I did a dry fit, not sure what happened there. Was a fun little project.
Great model, incredibly annoying to open! I ran out of filament before I could print the outside :(
Excellent job! The fit is great (and the machine I used to print these isn’t even tuned in that well). Thanks for sharing! (edited)
Prusament Galaxy Green PLA 0.15 mm layer height, outer layers first for better dimensional accuracy. I made an organic support attachment point for the long bridges. Probably my printer would have handled the longer bridges as well, but this was a safer choice. Thank you for the model!
Awesome little gears, you can even watch them change colors at they turn with a tricolor filament!
