Not a bad idea for small printers or if one only needs space for one shell.

I found that on one of the long sides there is a slit nearly to the bottom, which i am not sure is on purpose (i can't see a reason for it).

This slit kind of increases the fillament use quite a bit (as it increases the amount of walls needed)
